DiGRA 소개
2003년에 설립된 국제디지털게임학회(DiGRA, Digital Games Research Association)는 디지털 게임과 그에 관련된 현상을 연구하는 학계 및 업계 전문가들의 국제 집단이다. DiGRA는 수준 높은 게임 연구와 관련 지식의 전파, 그리고 다양한 전문가들의 국제적 협업을 지원한다. DiGRA의 임원진은 명망 있는 국제적 학자들로 구성되어있다.
DiGRA 한국 지회 설립 소식
DiGRA 한국 지회는 2023년 1월 16일에 DiGRA 임원진 전원의 동의에 따라 설립되었다. 한국의 게임 산업의 규모는 2022년 현재 세계에서 네 번째이며, 전세계 게이머들에게는 이스포츠의 메카로 알려져있다. 그럼에도 게임에 대한 학문적 기반을 쌓는 데는 다소 소홀하여, 게임 연구의 질적, 양적 수준은 상대적으로 미진한 상태로 남아 있다. 세계 최대 규모의 게임 연구 학술단체인 DiGRA의 한국 지회의 설립은 국내 게임 연구의 토대를 튼튼히 하는 동시에 국제적 학술 교류를 활발하게 추진하는 계기가 될 것이다.
게임과학연구원의 역할
게임과학연구원은 국내·외 게임연구자 사이의 교류를 촉진함으로써 게임 연구의 지역적 거점으로서 소임을 다하기 위해 DiGRA 한국 지부 설립을 추진하였다. 게임과학연구원은 DiGRA 한국 지부가 원활히 기능하기 위해 필요한 주소지, 연락처, 웹사이트 등의 물리적 거점괴 관련 사업 추진을 이한 행정적 지원을 제공한다.

· 한국 게임연구의 탁월한 결과물들을 국제적으로 공유함으로써 한국 게임 연구 공동체와 국제 게임 연구 공동체 사이의 거리 좁히기
· 학제간 경계와 관습적 접근방식을 넘어서는 차세대 게임연구의 장려
· 학문 후속 세대들에게 폭넓은 국제적 협력 연구 기회를 제공
DiGRA 한국 지회의 구성원
DiGRA 한국 지회는 게임 연구자, 학생, 업계 종사자 및 전문가 등으로 구성될 것이다. 동시에, 게임과 게임문화에 진지한 관심을 가진 일반 게이머들에게도 문호를 개방할 것이다. 또한, 국내의 게임과 게임 문화에 관심이 있는 세계 각국의 연구자와 산업 관계자 또한 DiGRA 한국 지부의 구성원이 될 수 있다.
DiGRA Introduction
Founded in 2003, DiGRA(Digital Games Research Association) is the premiere international association for academics and professionals who research digital games and associated phenomena. It encourages high-quality research on games, and promote collaboration and dissemination of work by its members. It’s executive board is made up of a variety of international scholars.
Establishment of DiGRA South Korea Chapter
DiGRA South Korea Chapter was established in 16th of January, 2023 with DiGRA executive board members’ unanimous agreement. South Korea has fourth largest game industry globally. In addition, South Korea is considered as the world’s esports capital and a mecca for professional gamers. However, digital games have been rarely considered as a subject for academic study, resulting in relatively nascent academic infrastructure for game studies. In such situation, establishment of DiGRA South Korea Chapter would be a first and meaningful step to provide solid foundation for game studies in South Korea.
Role of The Game-n-Science Institute
The establishment of DiGRA South Korea Chapter was promoted by The Game-n-Science Institute, whose main goal is to enhance Korean game researchers and those in overseas. The Game-n-Science Institute provides physical infrastructure such as address, contact and website and administrative support for DiGRA South Korea Chaper, which are necessary for it to function smoothly.
Vision of DiGRA South Korea Chapter
· To increase the visibility of Korean Game Studies internationally and bridge the gap between the international community and the Korean game research community
· To broaden the scope of game studies through interdisciplinary approaches and support the next generation of game scholars.
· To provide young and early-career game scholars with opportunities for collaborative research with national and international scholars.
Members of DiGRA South Korea Chapter
Members of DiGRA South Korea Chapter would be mostly game researchers, scholars, students, industry professionals, and if possible, interested grassroots participants in South Korea. Also, researchers and industry members worldwide who are interested in South Korean games and gaming culture are welcome.
